In case you missed it, fan favorite Shane Burgos has quickly found a new home after failing to reach an agreement for a new contract in the UFC. His free agency certainly didn’t last long. Hurricane season is now coming to the Professional Fighter’s League (PFL).

— PFL (@PFLMMA) August 15, 2022Shane Burgos (15-3 MMA, 8-3 UFC) was coming off a big victory over Charles Jourdain at UFC on ABC 3 last month. The Fan Arch athlete is certainly one of the most exciting fighters in the UFC’s Featherweight division, so it was widely expected that he’ll re-sign with the company.
But the offer never came and PFL pounced quickly. Making it even more surprising was the fact that the UFC didn’t even bother matching that offer.
In a recent press conference, UFC president Dana White admitted that they dropped the ball by letting Shane Burgos walk away like that.
“He’s not here. That was the mistake,” he said, as relayed by MMA Junkie. “I like the kid. Listen, do I think Shane Burgos was gonna move on and be a world champion and all this? No. But he’s fun. I like guys that come out, and they bring it every single time they fight and guys who want to perform and guys who want to win.
“Who has it more than that kid does? So I’m happy for him. I’m happy for him, and good for the PFL too. He’s a great kid and not just an exciting, fun fighter, but he’s a great person. So, yeah, good for everybody involved in that. We’re not perfect, but we don’t f*ck up often. We don’t f*ck up often, but we f*cked that one up.”

Shane Burgos, meanwhile, has no ill feelings towards his former employers. In a show of absolute class, Shane Burgos showcased his gratitude for the UFC and penned a heartfelt goodbye.
Apart from Jourdain, Shane Burgos has notable wins over the likes of Cub Swanson, Makwan Amirkhani, and Billy Quarantillo. Shane Burgos joins a long list of ex-UFC fighters who switched over to the PFL, including Anthony Pettis and Jeremy Stephens, among others.
Shane Burgos will certainly be the biggest name in PFL’s slim Featherweight division, but perhaps the biggest fights will be at Lightweight against the other former UFC fighters.
